CNN —A spooky image of a mushroom, a beached orca taking its final breaths, and a pair of Nubian ibex battling on a clifftop are among the winning images of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2023 competition. In many parts of the world, horseshoe crabs continue to be harvested for their blue blood, which is used in the development of vaccines. Young photographer Carmel Bechler discovered several barn owls in an abandoned concrete building near a busy road. The Wildlife Photographer of the Year, in its 59th year, is produced by the Natural History Museum of London. By showcasing the diversity of life on Earth, the competition hopes to inspire people to care and advocate for the natural world.

Officials issued a closure order for the nightclub in the city of Murcia in January 2022, a top official in charge of licenses, told reporters on Monday. Antonio Navarro said the city reissued the decree in October 2022, after the owner’s unsuccessful appeal of the closure. ☆ Nightclub fire kills at least 13 in Murcia in Spain

Earlier, Murcia's Mayor Jose Ballesta told reporters seven bodies had been found in the same area of the first floor, where the fire broke out. Footage released by Murcia's fire service showed firefighters working to control flames inside the nightclub.

“New victims cannot be ruled out,” the services said on their website. The injured are two women, aged 22 and 25, and two men, aged 41 and 45, who were all taken to the hospital due to smoke inhalation, the Murcia emergency services website said. The President of the Murcia region posted on X, formerly Twitter, “Worried and dismayed by the news coming from there (Murcia). “The General Director of Security and Emergencies, Ricardo Villalba, is on-site coordinating with the Murcia City Council the necessary means to manage this tragedy,” the emergency services said.
